If We Were Having Coffee…3/5/16

Happy March! Only 16 days till the first day of Spring. Let’s hear it for the light at the end of the cold, dark, tunnel!

If we were having coffee…I would usher you in and pour you a nice strong cup of plain old, no flavor, no froth, no fancy stuff coffee. I’m afraid that is as adventureous as I get. Now and then I may throw in a splash of French Vanilla creamer if I’m feeling wild. The upswing to my boring coffee preference is that I am the person you most want in line in front of you at Starbucks. Two pumps on the thermos top and I’m out of there! Next!

If plain old coffee isn’t your thing, I can offer flavored tea or lemonade? As an added perk, Mr D brought home some fresh made cinnamon raisin bread from work yesterday that is excellent with butter of just on its own. I’m more than willing to share.

If we were having coffee?..I would start off with a bit of a rant on behalf of a young driver I saw on the road yesterday. I was in a line of traffic waiting for a traffic light to change and a bit ahead of me, a girl in a little white car was trying to make a left out of a shopping center drive. This was in one of those areas we find way too often here in Jersey where there are multiple lanes converging and several business exits. That means, of course, that cars were coming every which way.

Some so-and-so in line behind this poor girl started beeping their horn. It really ticks me off when people do that! He or she knows nothing about this driver or their car. Maybe the car has lousy pick-up, or maybe they’ve been in a fender bender before and are very cautious now. Maybe they can’t see clear enough from where they are to judge, but what ever the reason is, they don’t feel safe pulling out yet and the bozo behind them beeping the horn is not helping matters.

My daddy drove an eighteen wheeler for almost fifty years and when he taught me to drive he told me two things….

  1. Never believe a turn signal on an oncoming car until you see it slow down and
  2. Never let another driver tell you it’s okay to pull out if you don’t feel it’s safe.

These are rules I still follow today and I taught them to my own children. Lucky  for me, I happen to be a pretty confident driver and have been since I got behind the wheel but not everyone is. My daughter, Miss Dee gets very nervous driving, and let me tell you, if somebody laid  on the horn behind her like that person did to that young lady yesterday, they would have to deal with one angry Mama Bear!

Okay, I feel better.  I’m climbing down off my soap box now. ☺️

If we were having coffee…I would share that Hubby and I got another chance to dance the night away last night. (Yikes! Twice in a month. I’m feeling like some crazy twenty-five year old). We attended a “Beef and Boogie” social that was held to raise money for an after prom event- a safe, chaperoned all night venue where prom goers can hang out, play games and dance after the prom.

Anyway, the social had really good food and a DJ and also offered chances to win gift baskets of all sorts. I didn’t win a basket but I had a really good hot roast beef sandwich and some killer desserts.  We also enjoyed some laughs with a group of Hubby’s coworkers and of course we danced!! The DJ handed out request sheets when he first arrived and he played everything we suggested. One of our friends in attendance is the gentlemen who plays in the band we usually go and dance to. It was fun seeing him as part of the crowd instead of on stage. What an immense amount of energy this guy has! Pretty sure when he was little he was one of those kids who never sat down in class. 😊

If we were having coffee…I would ask you about your week? Have you done anything new or exciting? Read any good books? Seen any good movies? Hubby and I are going to see the newest Star Wars film tonight and I’m planning on going to the movies with a friend tomorrow afternoon. We were hoping to see Brooklyn but it’s not playing nearby anymore so we may try to see the new film Race, which I believe is about Jessie Owens. I’ll tell you all about it next time we get together for coffee.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Don’t forget to stop by and check out the rest of the Weekend Coffee Share brought to you by Diana at Part Time Monster.

  1. Always look forward to your coffee posts. 🙂 I like just plain old coffee (with some non dairy creamer) too. Hate the flavored stuff! I do, however, on occasion like Starbuck’s Green Tea Frappacino. Because it has cream in it I don’t get it often, as the cream can upset my stomach, but it is good! As for books, I’m on the second Land of Stories book series I told you about. So much fun! I hope you get to see Brooklyn. I saw it a while back. Loved every second of it! I did not want it to end. I have also read the book, and will be honest and say this is one of those rare times I liked the movie better than the book. The movie just had more “heart”, I felt. I saw Zootopia Friday, and will see it again. Very cute, Very fun. I had had a not so great week, so it was the perfect movie to watch, relax to, and just let some worries go for a bit. 🙂

    • I am really bummed that we weren’t able to see Brooklyn. It was only playing at 10:30am and that didn’t work for my friend’s schedule so we ended up seeing The Big Short. Everyone it it was really good but most of the banking and finance part went right over my head so I am still undecided about it.
The only fancy drink I’ve had from Starbucks was a caramel iced coffee. The cream in those drinks sometimes bother my stomach too and if they are too big, the caffeine makes my hands shake! I try to stay away from them too often but your green tea drink sounds good. Thanks for stopping by!

      • My guess is Brooklyn will soon be out on video. Spotlight is very good. Difficult topic for some, but it is a good movie.

  2. Hope you enjoyed the new Star Wars film We all saw it about a month ago and loved it. My son and husband are real fans although they don’t live for The Force like some. My daughter enjoyed it enough to want BB8 for her birthday. He is great. Wanders around making cute electronic sounds and writing funny messages on your ipad. Here’s a post I wrote: https://beyondtheflow.wordpress.com/2016/02/26/bb8-welcome-to-our-world/ It’s not your conventional robot toy review.
Hope you have a great week xx Rowena

    • I loved the movie too. It was so much like the original which, in my opinion, is a good thing. I checked out your daughters birthday post and I think I need a BB8 of my own. I wonder how the cats would feel about him?

      • Those were my thoughts about the movie as well. I’m not a huge Star Wars fan but I saw the original one as a child and loved it and it’s the benchmark or me.
Our dogs have been fine with BB8. We have an automatic vacuum cleaner and they clear out when that’s on but they virtually ignored BB8. I still wouldn’t leave him unattended near them. He is a lot of fun! xx Rowena

      • I bet my Hubby would love one. We gave him a remote control Millenium Falcon for Christmas and everyone had a great time with that. Imagine what a hit BB8 would be?

      • Absolutely huge. BB8 is so good. I’d initially seen R2D2 in the shop and my husband mentioned BB8 and my son and I were initially more into r2D2 but we watched a few videos and loved him. My son ended up choosing to get Ollie which is more speed and tricks and seems indestructible but our daughter went with the character. They are definitely a lot of fun!

  3. I like plain old coffee, but… 😉 I like a strong dark roast and I like fresh perced coffee. I can stand drip for short periods and some Kuerigs are drinkable (most aren’t). But I hate flavored coffee with a passion.

I also hate people who honk. That horn is there for emergencies only.

Cool you got out dancing again!

    Have a great week!

  4. Thanks so much for the coffee. I am a nervous driver and have had the odd horn beep at me and I’m not sure why which concerns me even more. What am I doing wrong?
We are heading into Autumn here although you try telling that to the sun. It’s still stinking hot and the only difference is that its dark when we wake up. We’re still on daylight savings time.
I had some rather indulgent chocolate moments last week. Yum!
    xx Rowena

  5. Cinnamon raisin bread! I can’t remember the last time I had that. Thank you. 🙂 Excellent rant. I have always been a nervous driver, and having someone behind me honking rattles me (and makes me even slower to pull out, I must confess, because they have made me even more nervous!).

You’ve reminded me that I need to dance more. 😀

  6. I hate driving. I hate almost everything about it–the other cars, the (especially in New Orleans) labyrinthine streets, left-hand turns….So I definitely understand your daughter’s anxiety about driving. I’m not afraid to blow the horn, but it’s usually at people doing something stupid, not timid turners. lol

    • Yeah, I can really lay on the horn if someone takes crazy chances, too. I feel the same way about city driving. I’m fine in suburbia. Traffic circles I can deal with, but narrow, sometimes one way streets in the city with cars double parked and people walking in between?! No way!

      • hahaha…Story of my life. New Orleans is full of one-way streets, places you can’t turn left, and parallel parking on both sides of the street. Much of the city was built before cars were viable, so driving and parking here can be a real chore.

      • Sounds crazy! Well, I can tell you first hand that the police officers in Philadelphia don’t have much of a sense of humor when someone accidentally goes the wrong way down a one way street.🙄

  7. The honking thing actually happened to me this week. I was at a red light, trying to turn right on red. There were cars on my left pulled up too far so I couldn’t see past them without pulling into the road so I didn’t know if there were cars coming or not, so I wasn’t moving until the light changed. Behind me, there was a taxi van that honked a couple times and then I saw his head come out of the window and could tell he was yelling. I still wasn’t going to move because I couldn’t tell if cars were heading toward me or not and I had to turn 3 lanes over right away. Some people just need to learn to have patience!

    • Good for you for standing your ground. All those people back there beeping don’t have to face the consequences. This is a big pet peeve of mine, can you tell?!😊

  8. Good driving advice. My boys were in a terrible wreck because of someone else waiving them on. One ended up with a broken neck and the other was in a vehicle as it flipped 3 times. Dancing sounds fun.

  9. I read a number of good books this week. Caught on Andy Carpenter series when I read DEAD CENTER. A party can be fun. I am please that dancing was great.

  10. That kind of honking drives me batty, too!

As far as the watched & read question …

I watched Kung Fu Panda 3 with Li’l D last night, and it was so enchanting I knew I’d have a hard time tuning in for Zootopia today. (Littler tolerated about an hour before it was clear a full movie was not in my cards, anyway!)

I’d hoped to get to the library for more books today, but the day kinda raced away from me. Maybe I’ll get in for one of the evenings they’re open later this week. 🙂

    • My kids loved the first Panda movie. I heard the others were good too. We just got back from Star Wars. It was excellent! Hope u get to the library soon. I would go crazy with out a book to read!

  11. I will have some cinnamon raisin bread, yes, thanks.
More dancing? Wow, what a nice time to be you 🙂
