If We Were Having Coffee…9/25/22 -Fall Has Arrived!

Good morning friends!

If we were having coffee…I would welcome you to a crisp fall day here in Southern NJ…finally! Don’t get me wrong, I love summer, especially the part where I get to stay home and play instead of going to work, but, I was dead tired of the heat and humidity. I felt like it was extra oppressive this summer. Perhaps my age is catching up with me! Anyway, on Friday the weather took a turn and today is a high of 79. The doors are open and the air-conditioned is off. Hallelujah!

What do you all have going for this fine Sunday? Our plan for today is simple. It is an Philadelphia Eagles game day, which is a major event for my husband and I suppose for the rest of the family too (but mostly my husband 🙂 ) so we will be watching this afternoon all suited up in our green and keeping our fingers crossed for a win. In between, I’ll do laundry, a bit of cleaning and basically catch up with my life. Today is a stay at home day. Yesterday I did my running around.

Running around was actually just a trip to the mall but it felt like a big deal because I don’t go that often anymore. I desperately hate shopping for myself and that’s what I was doing-nothing major, just a fall jacket and maybe some tops for work. So, I literally walked from one end of the mall to the other and I’ve come to the conclusion that my body and my taste are out of style. Nothing looked like something I would wear. Plus, and tell me if you all are finding this too, every store looked understocked and messy, which made the whole thing even more depressing. I understand that many places are understaffed (still trying to figure out where all the pre-pandemic workers have gone to. Don’t they still need to make money? I know I do. ) and that many people have gone to online shopping (hard to try stuff on that way) but still it was very discouraging. My dream would be to have a personal stylist fill my closet with clothes that I love and that fit me perfectly. Probably not going to happen, huh?

Oh well. It’s still a beautiful day and it’s time I got moving. Thanks for stopping by. Please let me know what you’ve all been up to and don’t forget to visit the rest of the Coffee Share Post and our host Natalie The Explorer.

  1. I hate shopping, too. If I finda sometnh I like, I usually buy it in 2-3 colors. My daughter lived in Haadofield and I spent a lot of time there over the years.

    • That’s a great system, buying several of something you like. I’ll have to start doing that too. Haddonfield is a lovely town, about 20 minutes from where we live. They have a nice little theater that we’ve been to many times. Have you ever had a chance to see a show there?

  2. Nancy, Thank you for your weekend coffee share. It’s beginning to feel like Fall here, too. I got home yesterday from a trip to Eastern Canada and am catching up today. Have a great week!

  3. YEs, I find stores VERY understocked. I don’t like shopping for myself either. Ugghh, and I don’t know the last time I went to the mall. :/ I actually bought a few things online and they should be here tomorrow…we’ll see if they fit or not.

    • I’m glad to know it’s not just me! I do buy online too. It is certainly more convenient. Hope your items fit and thanks for stopping by.

  4. Fall is beginning to arrive here too! And I’m with you on wondering where all the workers went. It’s not just stores, it’s restaurants too. And the government money (which was never enough to live on) has mostly dried up. I’m not sure when the tide will turn!

  5. Hi Nancy,
Yea – I’m with Trent above. I think Malls are suffering and many are circling the drain.
But it’s more than malls that are in trouble. Just about every segment of our economy is stressed. No business has enough workers, but they can’t hire more mostly because they can’t afford them so too bad for the customer who needs help finding something.
On the other hand, we have an election coming. Maybe enough people will have had enough of our current leadership to throw a bunch of the problems out of office.
On the other hand, the crushing summer has broken off here too. Life is so much better when you can walk outside and not melt.
    Thanks for the visit.
Oh – I vote we just make our PJ’s the standard for outdoor wandering. Comfy is king in my book.

    • Agreed about not melting but I think if I start stepping out in my PJs my neighbors might give me strange looks! Lol! Thanks for stopping by.

  6. They still have malls? lol. There are some outlet stores and things that I sometimes visit, but I can’t remember the last time I went to the mall. OK, for my first two Covid shots – they set up in the mall. But other than that? Hmm….
My wife is watching the Patriots, but I don’t do football.
I hope you have a great week!

    • The first mall in our area opened when I was about 14 or 15 and was within walking distance of my house so it became a regular teenage hangout, the place to be every weekend. I guess because it was such a big part of my growing up, it make me sad to think that malls are a thing of the past. It also makes me feel really old!! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.

      • Malls always were big hang outs, and I think they still are were they are around. They started opening in the 1960s where I grew up, and I think most of those early ones are now gone. I live about 20 miles from the closest ones here, and one is closed and the other is just such a pain to get to that I haven’t bothered in many, many years…. I do hope they don’t all go away.
